CPDM Youths resign

Some 40 youths of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) in Diamaré, Maroua Centre I, have reportedly resigned from the ruling party.

According to a resignation letter dated August 18 and addressed to the CPDM Youth Section President, the decision was driven by frustration over limited opportunities for young people and a lack of dialogue within the party.

Youths Cite Lack of Opportunities and Dialogue

In their letter, the group wrote:
“We believe that our concerns and aspirations are not being sufficiently taken into account, which prompts us to reconsider our commitment to your political party.”

While recognising the CPDM’s contributions to Cameroon, the youths explained that the current state of affairs no longer reflects their values and expectations.

“We thank you for the opportunity given to us to be part of this movement and hope that our departure can serve as a signal for reflection on the future of the CPDM and the inclusion of young people in decision-making processes,” the letter further stated.

Wave of Resignations Hits CPDM

The resignation comes shortly after the convening of the electorate and the departure of two Northern allies of the regime. In recent weeks, the CPDM has witnessed a series of resignations, though some individuals have also joined the party.

For the 40 youths in Diamaré, it is alleged that they have now shifted allegiance to the Cameroon National Salvation Front (CNSF), led by Issa Tchiroma Bakary.

CPDM Yet to Comment

So far, the CPDM has not issued an official response regarding the reported resignations.

A few weeks earlier, when similar claims surfaced about members leaving to join the National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP) of Bello Bouba Maigari, the CPDM dismissed the reports, stating it did not recognize such individuals as members.
