The number of young persons involved in cybercrimes in the North West region is said to be on the rise. This information was made, public by the North West regional manager of the National Agency for Information and Communication Technology (ANTIC) during the start of a three-day training seminar on cyber security and the fight against cybercrimes organized for secondary schools and university ICT teachers in the Northwest region.
This seminar seeks to strengthen the capacities of lecturers and teachers to effectively teach the Facebook are the main users, of ICTs on the dangers inherent in the usage of these new technologies and adopt best practices to stay online.
Areas like basic ICT and Cybercrime concepts, cyber security and the role played by ANTIC in promoting the safe use of ICTs and cyber security enforcement in Cameroon, how to identify and pre-empt cybercrimes and the legal measures to be undertaken by victims to seek redress among others will be handle.
During the opening of the seminar, it was disclosed that ANTIC has identified more than 4000 fake Facebook accounts since 2019, and close to 3000 of them have been closed down in collaboration with Facebook.
With assistance from ANTIC, about 40 Facebook pages of ministers and top government officials have been verified. This makes it easy to identify authentic Facebook accounts from false ones.
