Daily News Summary – March 03rd, 2022

An alleged Separatists attack has claimed the lives of the Mayor and the Divisional Officer of Ekondo Titi in the Ndian Division, South West Region. They died after an explosive device blew off their car. A driver and two bodyguards also perished in the attack.

Bernanrd Okalia Bilai, South West governor, has urged residents of Ekondo Titi to remain calm following today’s attack. Speaking on state media, he claimed the sub division remains under the government, and that situation is under control. Today’s attack adds to a school shooting and the abduction of some delegates months back in the Ndian division.

Over 40 cars have been handed over to administrative authorities from different parts of the national territory. The cars were handed to Divisional Officers and Senior Divisional Officers today in Yaounde by their boss, Paul Atanga Nji, Territorial Administration Minister who urged them to put the cars to good use.

Yaounde has received an additional security unit. The structure built by the City Council was handed over to the national police for use today. The keys of the structure were handed over to the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele during an official ceremony.

Students of Government Bilingual High School Nylon Ndogpassi in Douala have protested on the school campus in support of their teachers who are currently on strike. Those in Government Bilingual High School, Santchou did same. In a video trending online, they could be seen singing and urging government to hear their teachers’ cries. Teachers across several regions are protesting poor working conditions, and non payment of salaries.

The Secretary General of the Cameroon Action Party Fabrice Lena has criticised the Government over it’s reaction towards the War in Ukraine. After urging the warring parties to engage in dialogue as a means to resolving the crisis, the PAP SG said the Government could not be giving out a piece of advice that it has failed to apply in the ongoing Anglophone crisis.

Cameroonians blocked in Ukraine have expressed concern over the lack of government action in evacuating them. Many have been denied access to neighboring European Nations as priority given only to white Ukrainians. Some African countries have already began evacuating their citizens.

In response to cried of nationals stranded in Ukraine, the Embassy of Cameroon in Germany has made available an emergency contact. Cameroonians in distress in Ukraine, they say, should reach them by phone or mail.
