Death of alleged Covid-19 patient at Bertoua Regional hospital: Director says family of deceased patient is to be blamed

The Director of the Bertoua Regional Hospital has washed her hands off a scandal of the death of a COVID-19 patient at the hospital’s premises. Responding to allegations that hospital staff were not proactive leading to the death of the lady in question, Mrs Hugette Nguele said the patient was brought late by the daughter, a student midwife.

“They kept their mother home and brought her to the hospital late. She died upon arrival and they threatened to beat up staff” She told journalists.

The father of the lady that posted a video on social media accusing the hospital of neglect, she adds has been taken care of. “I even had to send an ambulance to pick him up because he had escaped” the Director added.

The girl in question had accused the hospital staff of letting her mother die in a car at the hospital premises. Her father she added was COVID-19 positive but had not received treatment.

The Bertoua Regional hospital scandal is not the first of its kind. Weeks back, family members of a deceased person beat up a medical doctor for allegedly saying their father died of COVID-19.
