Defense Minister, Joseph Beti Assomo is on a working visit to the chief town of the Northwest region, Bamenda with the sole objective of assessing the security situation of the region.

As part of the visit, the Defense Minister will this Friday chair a security meeting with other security officials in his company and others in the region to scrutinize the atmosphere of the region and possibly improve on the situation.

Taking part in this security meeting will be the Secretary of State for Defense in Charge of the National Gendarmerie, Yves Galax Landry Etoga, and the Delegate General for National Security Martin Mbarga Nguele. They will be joined by other top brass military officials to be led by the Defense Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. René Claude Meka.

During the meeting, these top Defense officials will be expected to put the situation of Bamenda as well as the entire Northwest Region at the center of their discussions.

The officials are equally expected to find lasting solutions to protect schools in the region following recent frequent attacks on school establishments in the region.

On agenda too is going to be discussions on the upcoming Regional Elections and end of year festivities that are approaching, with a clear need for a beefing up of security.

During the meeting by these security chiefs, Defense forces in the Northwest region will be given an audience in which they will be expected to express the difficulties they face in the region and how the situation could be harnessed.

It coming on the heels of series of attacks in Bui, restive North West region which claimed the lives of security forces.
