The General Delegate for National Security has listed the cities and places liable to separatist attacks in the days ahead. Going by his list, the danger still hangs over the West Region.
In the document, Martin Mbarga Nguélé indicated that “reliable sources report the plan for simultaneous attacks by secessionists on July 23, 24 and 25, 2022” in several cities in Cameroon.
The head of the Cameroonian police even revealed details of those who particularly targeted.
In his message, Martin Mbarga Nguélé quoted the cities of Buea and Bamenda, respectively capitals of the South-West and North-West Regions, as well as Bangem, capital of the Koupe-Manengouba Division in the South West. In addition to the places mentioned above, the residence of the Senior Divisional Officer is believed to also be targeted.
Despite the disappointment suffered on June 27, 2022, when they went down to Babadjou in the Bamboutos Division to commit new atrocities, the separatist armed groups obviously have no intention of abdicating.
Even the arrest of several of their comrades does not seem to dull their determination to make a new incursion into the French-speaking zone.
Through a message sent on July 22, 2022, the General Delegate for National Security drew the attention of some of his collaborators to operations in preparation by separatist fighters.
Regarding the West Region, the city of Dschang is believed to be susceptible. The attackers are said to plan to attack places such as the university, churches, police, and gendarmerie units.
To better organize their operations, these armed groups reportedly held meetings and mandated a person to transport weapons that he will hide in a truck of sand which should leave from Bafut in the North West.
By transmitting this information to the Regional Delegates of National Security for the West, the North-l West, and the South West, Martin Mbarga Nguélé enjoined them to take, in collaboration with the administrative authorities and the other defense and security forces, all appropriate measures to thwart the moves.
He also asked them to increase research on forecast intelligence, control the movement of populations and goods in the targeted areas; carry out systematic searches of suspect persons and vehicles at mixed police/gendarmerie roadblocks; organize raids and police operations in the sectors concerned, and to report to him on any fact worthy of interest.
The armed conflict in the English-speaking part of Cameroon has become more complex over time with repeated attacks by armed groups in French-speaking localities.
