Dikolo-Bali crisis:
Douala traditional rulers want Wouri SDO replaced

Some traditional rulers alongside Sawa elited have have expressed their desire to see Benjamin Mboutou, Littoral’s Senior Divisional Officer, replaced.

It emerged from an extraordinary meeting which took place Sartuday May 28, at the Akwa Banquet Hall, Douala – organised by Douala Chiefs.

The SDO is being accused of “accentuating cases of land expropriation and as well installing non-native chiefs in some chiefdoms in Wouri.”

“It is important to the state of Cameroon to repair the prejudice caused in Dikolo but we can’t be talking of appeasement when our direct intermediary is our killer,” said Elimbi Lobe, a Sawa Elite, who added that: “…unanimously, the Sawa Community express the wish that the government should designate a new SDO for the Wourri Division.”

According to the Sawa natives, it is inappropriate for a non-native to be assigned as ruler over poeple of a particular land.

“An SDO who comes into people’s territory and starts creating chiefdoms for no good reason. I find it difficult to understand why a northerner should be installed to rule over the cheifdom of the Bonassamas. We are all aware of what happened when they tried to impose a non-native as chief,” reiterated Elimbi.

The Littoral governor has assured the traditional rulers of the creation of an ad-hoc committee which will take care of the land expropriation affair – pending a presidential decision.
