The Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) opposition political party will not take part in activities marking this year’s edition of the National Youth Day in Yaounde IV subdivision, Mfoundi Division of the Center Region. This comes as the rest of the nation will on February 11 commemorate the 59th edition of the National Youth Day.
In a letter addressed to Tchechoua Marc, CRM Secretary for Yaounde IV, the Divisional Officer Akondi Elvis Mbahangwen turned down a request for the party to take part in youth day festivities.
According to the civil administrator, CRM is not represented in parliament.
“I have the honour to inform you that participation in the parade is reserved solely for the various political parties represented in the National Assembly or the Senate,” the D.O said in the correspondence adding, “Consequently, it is impossible for me to give a satisfactory response to your request.”

The CRM has not reacted to this latest development at the time of this report.
The Divisional Officer for Nkambe ,MMI gathered issued a similar order limiting participation to parties represented in parliament.
“No law limits youth day participation to parties represented at the National Assembly or the Senate,” a Bamenda based advocate told MMI.
“If government is serious,it should come out clear on the significance of 11 February in the nations history which had nothing to do with the youths. It was a pure political day. They should better go back to the drawing board, give the day the political importance it deserves rather than limiting political parties wishing to take part in it’s commemoration in the name of youth day,” he added.
