Doctors Without Borders Struggle To Contain Massive Cholera Outbreak in Ekondo Titi, Bakassi

The Ekondo Titi and Bakassi Health Districts have been hit by the most massive Cholera Outbreak in recent times.

The international medical humanitarian organization, Doctors Without Borders has revealed that more than 189 cases of Cholera have already been detected, and over 5 deaths have been recorded within these two health districts.

According to a communiqué published by DWB, handling the cholera outbreak has been difficult given the security situation in the region, and the precarious health conditions compounded with the poor living conditions of the population in the affected areas.

Nevertheless, DWB says it has supported the Ekondo Titi and Bakassi Health Districts to stop the epidemic from spiraling out of control through “case management, referrals, health promotion, and surveillance.”

The international organization has also created two treatment centers for the epidemic; one of them in Bamusso, and another in Barack.

DWB also informs the population of these districts that “treatment will be free, and meals and transportation will be provided for all patients referred to these Cholera Treatment Units.”

DWB also assured that it is working tirelessly with local health establishments to stop the epidemic from spiraling out of control in the South West Region.

It should be recalled that a similar outbreak occurred in the South West Region in 2019, in Bakassi leading to the vaccination of 39,000 people, and the treatment of 230 others.
