Donga Mantung: Ntumbaw Fon distances self from media attacks related to land dispute with Njirong
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Fon of Ntumbaw village in Ndu subdivision, Donga Mantun division of the North West region Nfor Mohamed has denied approving any media attacks on their Njirong neighbors.

Ntumbaw and Njirong are lugged in a deadly land dispute.

Fon Nfor Mohamed made the statement in a release addressing recent media outings concerning the dispute.

It also touched on the recent protest by Rong women at the North West governor’s office.

“… I and my people have not mandated anybody to seek solutions to the protracted land dispute between Ntumbaw and Njirong through the social media, Radio and TV media. I therefore distance myself and my community from any social media-attempts by individuals, groups of individuals or associations to undermine the authority of the State,” the Fon wrote.

Recalling that Cameroon is a state of law, Fon Mohamed said it was essential that his Ntumbaw people respect the laws of the republic.
Ntumbaw, he pledged, “remains open to mediation by trustworthy, impartial and interested personalities, chosen from within our community and acceptable to both parties to the conflict.”

He also said “an out of court settlement dubbed amicable resolution is always desired, as long as it seeks a peaceful resolution, void of manipulations from land grabbers”.

He and his subjects, the ruler declared, await the National Land Commission to rule on the disputed land.

The fertile Mbawrong has been a source of conflict between both villages in the past years. Despite earlier rulings by administrative authorities and traditional rulers in the Donga Mantung division in favour of the Rong people, their Ntumbaw brothers continue to lay claim, leaving them at daggers drawn.

Read full statement of the Fon of Ntumbaw below…

I, NFOR MOHAMMED, the Fon of Ntumbaw informs the national opinion that I and my people have not mandated anybody to seek solutions to the protracted land dispute between Ntumbaw and Njirong through the SOCIAL MEDIA, Radio and TV media.

I therefore distance myself and my community from any social media-attempts by individuals, groups of individuals or associations to undermine the authority of the State.I remind all and sundry that Cameroon is a State of law and the Ntumbaw people respect the laws of the republic.

It should be noted that, following States laws, and laid down procedures, in matters of Land disputes or conflicts of limits of boundary, there are basically two means of resolution, namely:1) OUT OF COURT SETTLEMENT (Amicable settlement by the two parties) 2) ADJUDICATION (land commissions)I equally wish to indicate that Ntumbaw remains open to mediation by trustworthy, impartial and interested personalities, chosen from within our community and acceptable to both parties to the conflict. In this light, an out of court settlement dubbed amicable resolution is always desired, as long as it seeks a peaceful resolution, void of manipulations from land grabbers.

In the meantime, we the peace-loving and law-abiding citizens of Ntumbaw await the coming of the NATIONAL LAND COMMISSION announced by the Minister of Territorial Administration on the 10th June 2021 through correspondence Ref:

001544/L/MINAT/DOT/SDOA/SCA OF THE 10TH OF JUNE 2021.

This announcement was in response to several admitted petition letters against attempted adjudication efforts.Until then, Ntumbaw distances herself from all activities, distractions or manipulations carried out either in associations, social media groups, including radio and television networks or elsewhere, which are contrary to laid down procedures.

I call on all sons and daughters of Ntumbaw in and out of the village to remain peaceful and law abiding. They should also be very vigilant and watch out against all sorts of provocations. All acts of intimidations should be reported to the appropriate quarters.

Sons and daughters of Ntumbaw may take part in the discussion of the subject matter when and wherever need be, as long as such discussions are informal, done in respects of states laws and as a means to edify public opinion.

In terms of security, I applied for the creation of a temporal security post in Mbaw, along the disputed area.

This would ensure security in the area and limit provocations, potential confrontations and false alarms. The administration has assured me that the appeal is under consideration.
