Douala: flood-induced landslide leaves couple dead

The bodies of a man and his pregnant wife have been retrieved after floods in the PK13 neighborhood in Douala.

George Dzokeum, 44 and his 8-month-pregnant woman, Mofo Victoire, 41, have died after a landslide destroyed their home.

The incident has been attributed to heavy rains that made the said land give way, burying the couple in the rubble.

Neighbors and persons of goodwill following the incident managed to pull the couple out of the dirt, but it was too late.

Administrative authorities, reports say have visited the site to assess the situation.
Douala is not new to floods. A perennial challenge, the floods are often attributed to heavy rains as well as poor drainage systems in the town.
