Douala: Gendarmerie officer under investigation for ‘stealing’ 370,000frs from a civilian

An officer of the national gendarmerie whose name MMI is yet to get is under interrogation in Douala, Littoral region of Cameroon, for allegedly transferring to himself the sum of 370,000frs from the Mobile money account of a Cameroonian of English expression.

It is not known what happened before the officer of the law committed such an act, qualified as ‘stealing by intimidation’.

The uniformed officer was taken for questioning following intervention from a Buea-bases human rights lawyer

In a video making rounds on social media, the gendarmerie officer is seen helplessly standing as the disgruntled justice defender expresses shock.

“It is bad to treat an Anglophone like this. It is not even a matter of Anglophone or Francophone. You do not treat Cameroonians like that,” the human rights lawyer is overheard in the video.

“Somebody has 371,000frs on his phone and withdraw 370,000frs and abandoned him in Douala. I had to be called from Buea to come and fight for them. This is not normal. We have to stop this. You are disgracing the country. We can not accept this,” he fumed.

Security forces in Cameroon are noted for harassing and extorting ordinary Cameroonians on daily bases.
