Douala: Hospital guard rapes patient on sick bed

Jean-Marie T., a 31-year-old security guard, has been arrested by the gendarmerie after he was caught sexually assaulting a patient at a health facility in Bepanda-Bonabo, Douala V Subdivision.

The victim, 22-year-old Stevie, a student admitted to the hospital for malaria, fell prey while she was sleeping.

The incident happened on the night of Saturday, May 4.

Stevie, who lives at Makepe, Douala, was brought into the hospital after she was gripped by Malaria.

She received some injections from medics at the hospital, and was hospitalized in a room she shared with another patient.

But the other patient was discharged earlier, leaving Stevie as the lone occupant of the room.

Stevie was at the hospital with two security guards and some nurses on duty when she was raped on Saturday night.

With Stevie fast asleep, one of the guards, Jean-Marie T., who is responsible for internal control, took advantage of the situation.

With the door slightly opened, he entered Stevie’s room and found her asleep in a nightie.

Exploiting the vulnerability of the situation, he began touching her, despite her weak attempts to resist.

The assault escalated into rape, leaving Stevie screaming for help.

Upon hearing her cries, the second security guard rushed to the scene and found Jean-Marie with his pants at knee level.

The perpetrator was caught in the act. Nurses who were on duty that night alerted the Gendarmerie who took Jean-Marie into custody.

He reportedly admitted to the crime, adding to the shock and outrage surrounding the incident.

He told the gendarmes he could not resist what he saw, that night, for the girl had no pants on.
