Maya Comfort, a petty trader in Douala popularly known as Mami Eru has been in detention for days now.
An internally displaced lady, she had resorted to selling food in the country’s economic capital, to make ends meet.
After coming across security officers over the weekend, however, the food seller, MMI gathered, was arrested on Monday and has since been detained.
“On Friday, She asked someone to snap her and while snapping, two policemen who were around called her and questioned her for snapping in Bonanjo,” narrated a source, adding that her phone was seized and she was asked to come on Monday.
The lady, our source added, was told that “… The fact that the two police officers appeared in the picture is illegal, as even snapping in Bonanjo needs an authorization.”
She has since been detained, and a court date is set to hear her case.
Mami Eru is one of many other Anglophones languishing in detention centers across the country, with the primary cause being the armed conflict in the North West and South West regions.
