Arson against journalist in Cameroon
By M.K
A few weeks after the assassination of Journalist Anye Nde Nsoh, and the robbery at the “La Voix des Jeunes” Newspaper in Yaoundé, another journalist has again been targeted by men of the underworld.
The victim this time around is Viviane Andrea, a TV presenter at INFOS TV, whose car was set ablaze by yet-to-be-identified individuals.
The car was parked in a family home where the journalist resides together with her brothers and sisters on the day it was destroyed.
“…she returned home at about 9 pm as she usually does, and parked her car in the compound,” a witness in the house recounted. “…at about 1 am, while they were asleep, one of her sisters who were still awake saw through the window, fire burning under the car,” she testified.
Neighbors were quickly alerted in a bid to help save the car from the fire. Their efforts nevertheless proved futile as the car was completely engulfed by the flames.
Elements of the fire-fighting brigade also arrived at the scene when it was already too late as usual. The perpetrator of this act had carefully left the scene at the time the population arrived.
It was realized that the culprit had gotten access to the compound by scaling the fence. An investigation meanwhile has already been opened by the gendarmerie to establish more facts about the attack.
The journalist meanwhile reveals to have received multiple threats, and physical aggression from men of the underworld.
Such attacks on pressmen have multiplied recently in Cameroon. A few weeks after celebrating World Press Freedom Day, journalists in Cameroon continue being targeted, with little or no protection.
