The funeral of a woman in Ntseuh village in the West Region last weekend, turned into a “boxing gala”.
According to reports, the fight resulted from chieftaincy disputes.
As the set-up for the start of the funeral ceremony was over, suddenly gong sounds began to resound as is customary when a traditional chief arrives in Bamileke land.
It was the chief of Ntseuh.
However, a man, visibly a member of the bereaved family, affronted the delegation accompanying the chief of Ntseuh which was about to enter the courtyard, ordering them to make a U-turn.
The exchanges became heated, the tensions became too high, things moved very quickly and at the end of the day, turned into a general brawl. Each inhabitant of the village engaged in the fight.
Materials were reportedly destroyed while several persons equally sustained injuries.
After over 30 minutes of intense fighting, soldiers intervened and restored calm.
