PWD football club of Bamenda got its first victory in four games at the MTN Elite One Championship, after overpowering AS Fortuna 1-0 on Sunday.
The Abakwa Boys now have seven points, having recorded two wins, two defeats and a draw.
Ndiforchu Blaise saved the day for PWD after converting a shot at the 57th minute.
Both teams withdrew into half time on a 0-0 score line after many missed chances.
After winning its first game of this season against Bamboutous (1-0), PWD went on to concede a defeat from Canon Sportive (2-0).
On match day three, it settled on a 0-0 draw with Colombe (0-0) but lost to Dynamo 2-0 on day four.
PWD fans say the team has to maintain its winning stamina at the championship if it must go far.
They showered congratulations messages at the 2023 Cameroon Cup runners-up for delivering a much-awaited victory.
“Congratulations! We need to win more games to stay on the safe side and probably win the championship, why not,” commented Ndinakie Albert, a PWD fan.
“Thanks for the great victory today. More wins ahead,” said Kelvin Che, another fan.
“A difficult start of the season, but with hardwork things shall be okay. The team is in need of a striker. Courage boys,” Job Ban commented.
With yesterday’s victory, PWD will definitely gain more standing on the classification table. It ended match day four on the eighth position in Group A out of 10 teams.
The Abakwa Boys will face Union Sportive of Douala on match day six.
As PWD celebrates, its North West brother, Yong Sport Academy, failed to have a breakthrough.
YOSA conceded 1-0 against Stade Renard of Melong yesterday, marking its second defeat in four games.
The club remains at the bottom of Group B, with just two points at the end of match day five.
