Mankon, found in the Bamenda II Municipality is one of the pivots of the ongoing war plaguing the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.

During the official mourning ceremony of HRH, Fo Angwafo III of Mankon and the enthronement of the new Fon, HRH Fo Fru Asaah Angwafo IV, Tuesday June 7,2022, many stayed away for fear of the unknown taking into consideration the security challenges plaguing that area on normal days.

Little did they know that peace and security were going to reign. The number of government forces and armed separatist fighters many expected to see around Mankon was not what they saw.
According to a Mankon resident, there was a Divine power at play: “the warring parties are observing a Cease-Fire forced down their throats by the gods of our land. From what you can see, they have no choice but to obey” he explained.

Apart from the light showers from the skies which according to many villagers, was simply showers of blessings to prepare the way for the new fon, no major incident took place.

The rigorous checks on identification documents which are always tensed on normal days, especially around Mankon were relaxed as many trooped in to witness the enthronement.

Those who came in contact with armed separatist groups said they only chatted and laughed with no one being harassed.

Pa Nde Barnabas told MMI that separatist fighters who were at the palace plaza were also there to be part of the historic event,

“Many of them are here, a good number took part in the mourning rituals in their way. The departed fon is their father too and it is an opportunity for them to pay him their last respect. They haven’t caused any trouble and are on the lookout for any trouble maker. The soldiers are also here doing what they are assigned to. This to me is like a cease-fire and it feels good, ” Pa Nde said.

There are those who pray to see the current atmosphere of serenity that reigns in Mankon today continue in the entire North West and South West Regions of Cameroon battered by a war that has claimed thousands of lives and caused enormous material damage.
