Far North: Clash between Chadians, Cameroonians leaves several injured, property destroyed

Several persons have incurred severe injuries with enormous property destroyed following a clash between Chadians and Cameroonians in Gobo, a locality in the Mayo Danay Division.

According to information gathered by MMI’s correspondent in the Far North Region, some residents of Gantchedem a border village in Chad — stormed Gobo after accusing the residents of this locality of theft.

According to them, residents of Gobo have stolen a good number of cattle that they transported over to Cameroon.

“The inhabitants of Gobo in the Cameroonian territory were not ready to digest these accusations. This triggered a clash between Cameroonian and Chadian brothers and friends,” said MMI correspondent.

Several houses were set on fire, residents assaulted — with many others currently hospitalized at the integrated health center of the locality.

Several livestock were also destroyed, locals told MMI.

“I’m speechless this shouldn’t happen between us brothers from two neighboring countries,” decried a resident of Gobo.

He continued that: “my innocent elder brother was abused, seriously injured and many innocent people are in the hospital.”

MMI reporter on the ground had confirmed that, “the damage is enormous as a dozen people have been seriously injured, more than 300 people homeless and several documents destroyed by the fire.”

The Senior Divisional Officer of Mayo Danay will be visiting the scene to assess the damage caused, pending investigations.
