A teacher in the Mayo Kani Division in Cameroon’s Far North Region is receiving medical treatment at the Kaele District Hospital.

Many remain surprised after surrogates of a traditional ruler in Mayo Kani Division recently had the teacher in question flogged.

The victim, Bambeh Armand who works at the divisional delegation of secondary education, reports say, was flogged for going against the tradition of the land.

Armand, locals say, had gone against traditional burial rites. The teacher, some say, violated stipulated norms that require that only family members of the deceased and some traditional authorities have access to certain rituals.

Enraged that the teacher had violated the rules, reports say locals pulled him out of a drinking spot and had him flogged. He was only released after the intervention of his colleagues and a few passersby who rushed him to hospital.

At press time, no investigation had been opened and traditional and administrative authorities have remained mute over the incident.
