Mbiame is in festive mode following the compliance of its traditional ruler, HRH Fon Nwe II with a huge fine levied against him by the village’s regulatory society.
‘ Ngwerong‘, a powerful regulatory society in the traditional administration imposed a fine on the traditional ruler for contravening some customs and traditions considered grievous according to the laws of the land.
A villager told MMI that the entire population is gathered in Mbiame palace this day July 26, 2023, to feast from the proceeds of the penalty.

When Ngwerong sanctions the fon, it must be a very grievous crime. They do not explain what the Chief has done to the public, but the villagers benefit from the proceeds of the sanctions.

“The Fon of Mbiame is paying a fine to the highest traditional institution known as Ngwerong,” a source in Mbiame who opted not to be named told MMI.
The fine imposed last month according to MMI findings is said to be in 50/50 terms.
“He was fined to pay 50 goats, 50 fowls, 50 crates of beer, 50 jugs of palm wine, and 50 baskets of corn fufu,” our source said
The items, according to a video sent to MMI by a Mbiame villager have been presented to the population who are currently gathered in the palace.

Quizzed on what crime the Fon committed to be imposed such a heavy fine, he said, “It remains a secret. Only the Ngwerong knows.”
Uncommon sanction
It is a rare episode in the modern history of Mbiame.
“The sanctions exist but it has been long since it was invoked,” our source said adding, “We have been having minor finds but this one is so severe.”
It will be total feasting as tradition demands that the whole community feast from such.
“All those items will be arranged and eaten by everybody,” he told MMI.

Amid Controversies
Mbiame, it should be noted has been a scene of controversy in recent times.
A few months ago, some title holders and notables were publicly stripped of their titles by the same secret society.
On the hand, the traditional ruler who recently returned from a visit to the United States of America has also been having tough times with the administration for allegedly condoning the activities of armed Separatist Ambazonia fighters in his Fondom.
