The new date set for Fennasco League A games is between May 24 and 31, the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, has announced. The annual jamboree was initially going to run from April 5 to 12 in Abong-Mbang, East Region.
But a release from Minister Nalova rescheduled the event, citing incomplete works at the hosting venue.
“This slight shift is to allow for the grandstand to get dry properly. The new date is 24th-31st May 2025,” she wrote.
Examination Candidates Excluded
The sudden decision to push the event to a later date has affected students who will be writing the General Certificate of Education (GCE) and the Baccalaureate and Probatoire exams.
“Students in examination classes will not participate in the final competition but will be substituted and given certificates of participation,” the minister wrote.
The students will not participate because the rescheduling coincides with the immediate preparation for the national exams, which are coming up in May and June.
Last Fennasco Held in Limbe
It was at Mukundange, Limbe, that MINESEC chose Abong-Mbang to host this year’s competition. Last year, the Secondary Education Ministry handed the decision to Joseph Le, the Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms.
Minister Le received the Olympic flag because he is an elite of the East Region, where this year’s event is taking place.
While in Limbe, Minister Nalova frowned at bad behaviour from students. Mattresses used to lodge students went missing, and students were the primary suspects.
The minister stated that officials banned eight students from participating in the Fennasco due to their involvement in sexual activities.
The Fennasco League A Games group finalists from schools in the 10 regions of Cameroon into one venue to compete in several sports disciplines.
