These figures were released after the Covid-19 screenings that were carried out by the Ministry of Public Health under the instructions of Minister Manaouda Malachie.

The Mass tests happened for a duration of one week in schools, and the total number of positive cases amongst the students and pupils that were screened stood at 204.

The Mass Covid-19 tests was concentrated mainly in the towns of Yaoundé and Douala. in Yaoundé, over 13 secondary schools benefited from the screening, with more than 5000 students taking the tests. But unlike the case of Douala, the results of Yaoundé returned no positive cases from all who took the test.

Information from the Ministry of Public Health says that the positive cases detected were taken directly to the Public Health Emergency Operation Center for the required treatments.

As a means of mitigating the spread of the Covid19 pandemic amongst peers in schools, Public Health Ministry adds that it has employed a strategy of mass sensitization campaigns in schools as well as distributing fliers and leaflets to students and pupils.

According to the Public Health officials, students might have mild symptoms which may be highly transmittable to their older relatives at home, who are more prone to die from this disease than the younger ones.
