Security officials have confiscated a huge amount of illicit drugs. The drugs were intercepted by elements of the National Gendarmerie on transit to Yaounde from Bamenda, chief town of the Northwest region, Bamenda.
According to the gendarmerie, the illicit cargo intended for redistribution throughout Yaounde was concealed in 7 bags of corn.
After a meticulous search, the goods were discovered wrapped in plastic and hidden inside the seven bags of corn where it was uncovered.
Lieutenant Bobodji Bello who was part of the group that uncovered the Marijuana revealed the just uncovered drugs belongs to a chain of traffickers known to have been bringing in Illicite drugs into Yaounde for a long time.
“It’s a chain that goes from Bamenda. The delivery person is responsible for transporting the goods from Bamenda to Yaounde. Here there is a buyer who will receive the package and resell it in all districts of the city” he told the CRTV.
The Lieutenant also revealed that several members of the drug cartel have been arrested and are currently in the hands of the National gendarmerie with their fate set to be determined within the coming days.
He further promised that the cartel would be tracked and dismantled from its roots in Bamenda so as to completely end its trafficking and infiltration into Yaounde and other towns in the country.
