A fire incident has destroyed a major section of the United Youths Organization (UYO) head office at Mile 2, Nkwen in Bamenda, causing extensive material damage and disrupting part of the organization’s operations.

According to a press release signed by Chief Executive Officer Melvin Songwe, the fire broke out at about 9:00 PM on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, within the portion of the building.

Despite firefighters’ intervention, the blaze spread rapidly and completely consumed the affected flat before it could be contained.

Among the areas destroyed were the conference room and secretariat, administrative offices, staff room, finance office, and programmes office.

The organization also reported the loss of critical office equipment, including desktop computers, laptops, servers, printers, projectors, office furniture, and key administrative and programme records.

UYO says it is now working with the fire brigade and administrative authorities to determine the cause of the incident, while internal assessments continue to establish the full extent of losses.

Despite the destruction, the organization has reassured partners and beneficiaries that measures are already being taken to ensure the continuity of ongoing programmes through temporary workspaces and emergency response plans.
