Former Bafut Mayor Langsi Abel Freed After Eight Days in Separatist Captivity

Separatists have released Langsi Abel, the former mayor of Bafut, after holding him captive for eight days. Family sources confirmed his release early Friday.

A message reportedly signed by his wife announced, “Our husband, daddy, son, brother, uncle & friend Mayor emeritus Abel LANGSI is FREE since 5am this morning.”

The family expressed gratitude in the statement, thanking God and everyone who supported them during the ordeal. It added, “Thank God & thank you family and friends for the prayers, show of concern and standing by us during this very difficult and stressful week of captivity.”

Abduction Followed a Philanthropic Gesture

Langsi Abel was abducted shortly after a philanthropic visit to Bafut, where he provided financial aid to orphaned students. The gesture fulfilled his late father’s wish to support underprivileged children in gaining access to quality education.

His capture drew widespread concern, with many highlighting his dedication to community development and education.

Circumstances of Release Unclear

Details surrounding Langsi Abel’s release remain unknown. Family members have not disclosed whether conditions were met for his freedom, leaving questions about the resolution of his captivity. This comes amid increasing kidnappings for ransom by Ambazonia separatist groups
