A man popularly known as T-Pain was killed by armed men, believed to be elements of the Cameroon military, in what locals describe as a targeted attack.

T-Pain, a former separatist fighter who had reportedly renounced the armed struggle and was living a normal life in Bamenda, was killed on Sunday evening at Mile 90, Nsongwa, on the outskirts of Bamenda, headquarters of the North West region.

Local sources reported hearing heavy gunfire for approximately 30 minutes before T-Pain’s lifeless body was found.

“We saw T-Pain dead after the gunfire,” a source told MMI.

T-Pain was said to be a friend of Pancho, a bike rider who, along with a female passenger, was killed in Mbattu last week.

It remains unclear whether T-Pain’s killing is related to the Mbattu incident.

Unlawful killings have continued in Cameroon’s English-speaking regions since the escalation of the Anglophone Crisis.

Both government forces and armed separatists have been implicated in these killings, with no investigations hardly carried out by the authorities.
