The government of France says it has granted the sum of FCFA 40 Billion to support Cameroon in its efforts to rebuild the conflict-hit Anglophone regions.
According to the French Ambassador to Cameroon, HE Christophe Guillou, the package was handed over by the French Minister of Europe and Foreign affairs, Jean Yves Le Drian during his last visit to Cameroon.
After announcing a FCFA 30 Billion contribution from France to help develop the Far North region, Ambassador Christophe said “he also announced a FCFA 40 Billion contribution for the reconstruction of the North West and South West regions which have suffered for the past three years…”
The money, he explained, is expected to be used to finance diverse projects that are still to be determined with the help of Cameroonian authorities and the affected population.
Many are however questioning how the reconstruction will take place with intense fighting still going on in the troubled regions. Despite the major national dialogue held to resolve the conflict, more fighting is still being recorded in the regions especially as the resolutions of the dialogue are yet to be implemented.
