France provides Maroua firefighters administrative block building

By Amina Hilda.

The firefighters unit of Dougoi, Maroua in the Far North Region has benefited from the construction of an administrative block building by France.

These firefighters, according to reports have been extremely busy since their establishment in the city. This is because traffic accidents, fire outbreaks, and cases of drowning have become the order of the day in the city of Maroua.

The city was recently honored with a new building on an area of 140m by 120, a building which has just been inaugurated in the city of Maroua for the firefighters.

The building according to reports will offer a better living environment and above all a refreshment framework for the firefighters currently stationed at the Dougoi rescue center.

“Firefighters are subject to 24-hour service, they need to find a space in which they can return to calm and recover. A space of cohesion that then allows everyone to cool down” said General Mahamat Ahmat commander of the national fire brigade

The administrative blocks built at the Maroua rescue center is the result of cooperation between Cameroon and France.

It is, however, reported that France shoulders further responsibility to provide support to the national corps of firefighters in Cameroon so they in return, will respond effectively to all the dangers that the populations of Cameroon and that of the Far North region, in particular, may suffer.

In this regard, France has announced a three-year plan of 300,000 Euros (about 200 million CFA francs) of support, for the benefit of these firefighters to strengthen their operational capacities.
