Fuel shortage wreaks transportation havoc across major cities in Cameroon

Major Cameroon cities like Yaounde, Ebolowa, and Bertoua have recently witnessed a drastic and sudden shortage in fuel.

Since yesterday, July 11, drivers have been spotted queueing at various filling stations in these cities, hoping to get fuel before it runs out.

“We have been able to send only one bus, meanwhile per day, we used to send about 5 to 10 but today the buses are down because there is no fuel.” explained a worker of a travel agency in Yaounde.

The shortage is also having a direct impact on passengers who could be spotted stranded at various travel agencies, following the unavailability of buses.

Meanwhile, others, unable to secure spaces for the various journeys were forced to return to their homes.

According to a passenger in Yaounde ” We are here since 7 in the morning. Yes! We have been reimbursed and it’s all because of fuel shortage.”

It is feared that persistence in this shortage will likely lead to a drastic increase in transport fares.
