During a meeting with the transitional government of Mali, the German foreign minister urged Mali’s transitional government to stop cooperating with the Russian forces.
The German Foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock threatened to stop working with Mali if they do not put their cooperation with the Russian forces to halt.
“We cannot work together if there is no vacation from Russian forces and that is not the case at this moment, which is why we cannot continue the mission here in Mali, as it is.”She said.
Malian foreign minister, Abdoulaye Diop, on his part has demanded that Germany to respects their cooperation with Russia, as an independent entity.
He said: “I will like to make it clear that Mali is not a home for a private security company. The cooperation between Mali and Russia is a long term cooperation.”
It should be noted that Mali recognized the Russian Federation as the successor state of the Soviet Union on January 16 1992, after the dissolution of the latter. Russia has an embassy in Bamako, while Mali has an embassy in Moscow.
