Godden Zama, a former chairmanship candidate of the Social Democratic Front-SDF Party, has officially declared his departure from the party following his failed bid to lead the party.
On his official Facebook page, the political figure publicly announced his resignation without delving into the reasons behind his decision.
“My time with the party is up. I am grateful for every experience and cherish every moment. As a member of the party, I fought every battle. I never picked a fight, and I am grateful for my time in the SDF,” wrote Godden Zama.
He extended well-wishes to the newly elected chairman, Joshua Osih, and his executive team.
The Social Democratic Front party elected Honourable Joshua Osih as its chairman on October 29, 2023. Osih secured 62.9% of the total votes cast, while his opponents, Gordon Zama and Chewa, received 13.9% and 23.2% of the votes, respectively.
A few hours after the announcement of the results, Godden Zama called for a press briefing, which he later cancelled.
It is speculated that the former chairmanship candidate was dissatisfied with both the results of the elections and the resolutions of the recently held National Executive Committee meeting.
Mr. Zama, it should be recalled, declared his intention to vie for the SDF chairmanship during a press conference on Saturday, August 5, 2023, in the seaside resort town of Limbe in the South West region.
The Social Democratic Front (SDF) political party has been a prominent force in Cameroon’s opposition political scene since 1990.
By design or accident, the party had no leader other than the late Ni John Fru Ndi, who led the party from its inception until his demise.
Mr. Fru Ndi passed away on June 12, 2023, and was officially laid to rest in his native Baba II village in Santa, Mezam division of the North West region, on July 29, 2023.
