Government Accused Of ‘Conspiracy Silence’ On Preelection Irregularities

Militants of opposition political parties have been decrying what they call ‘the conspiracy silence’ of members of government following administrative malpractices in the process of compiling documents for the municipal and legislative elections billed for February 9th 2020.

This they say is because the minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, his counterpart of the Ministry of decentralisation, Elanga Obam and the director of taxation have not issued any statement to condemn administrative bottlenecks put in place by workers of their ministries at the sub divisional and divisional levels to frustrate political ambitions of militants of opposition political parties.

In Nkongsamba, Mungo division in the Littoral region, militants of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party say the chief of taxation has “intentionally made himself unavailable” to sign their documents.

In Tiko in the South West region, a militant of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) has written to Mimi Mefo Info “…the tax officer in Tiko has put an arbitrary levy of 18.000FCFA on political aspirants divided as follows: 1000 for stamp, 2000f for application and 15000f for tax clearance proper”, stating that the money is collected in total illegality.

It should be noted that the deadline for the deposition of documents for municipal and legislative election is Monday 25th November 2019.
