Mbanga-Pongo, located in the Wouri division of the Littoral region of Cameroon, has had a large number of its residents made homeless and its commercial spaces damaged.

The government ordered the destruction of the homes on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in order to make way for the development of a road system in the area.

Because this isn’t the first time their homes have been destroyed for a project that never materialized, victims have been voicing their frustration.

“It’s the second or third time this has happened, but not even one kilometer of that road has been tarred,” a frustrated local told MMI.

Claims that the contract had been granted to a reliable road-building company, however, have stoked hopes that work can finally begin.

“We are only presuming its veracity this time. Let them wreck our homes again for no reason,2 our source added.
