Over 72 hours after an announcement of the death of Samuel Wazizi while in detention, the government of Cameroon has not issued an official statement.

According to the Cameroon Trade Union of Journalists (SNJC), the Buea based pidgin news broadcaster died at the Yaounde military hospital after several months of torture in detention. The trade union has so far not given precision of when he died and where the body has been deposited.

As allegations of the journalist dying in detention that have shocked the world, the Yaounde regime has maintained sealed lips.

According to Dr. Ako John Ako, “the regime of Paul Biya has never been accountable for the lives and property of Cameroonians. Their silence is to design what they will tell Cameroonians that will not be satisfactory”.

To the political analyst, the people of Cameroon have to vehemently denounce prolonged periods of detention of people without any judgement and ills committed by the judiciary.

So far, just the Governor of the south West Region has spoken. To Bernard Okalia Bilia Thursday June 4th to journalists in Buea, Samuel Wazizi was taken to Yaounde alive two days after his arrest in Buea. Government is yet to make any official declaration.
