The Ministry of Communication has rubbished claims by the spokesperson of detained CRM leader, Maurice Kamto, of the arrest and detention of 200 protesters over the weekend.
In a series of tweets, Government has also downplayed the highly sounded demonstrations, saluting the public and security officers for ignoring the calls of people it describes as anti-patriots.
Olivier Bibou Nissack, the mouth piece of Maurice Kamto had earlier said, security forces arrested 200 supporters and sympathizers of the CRM in Yaounde during an anti Biya protest last Saturday.
He even went further to say, they were taken to an undisclosed location. But the Ministry of Communication in a tweet has debunked the statement.
The Ministry on her part claims 66 persons who did not claim allegiance to any party were picked up police officers in Yaounde, while 19 were napped by Gendarmes.
Out of this number 43 out the 66 arrested by the police have been freed. And 11 taken by Gendarmes are now free. It further revealed that, the others will be freed after going thriugh due legal process.
The Communication Ministry also reject the view by Nissack who said the CRM recorded a “significant victory” by daring the adminstrative ban and security personel mobilised to foil the demonstrations.
It boasted that Cameroonians in Cameroon’s capital on Saturday went about their lives hitch free, “ignoring calls from anti patriots.”
Government has also denied accusations of torture by security forces, praising Police and Gendarmes for “strictly carrying out their mission without torture or bad punishment.”
