Government returns Longue Longue’s passport at campaign rally

The Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Justice has returned the passport of embattled singer and social critic, Longue Longue at a campaign rally in Douala, Sunday.

The international identification travel document was confiscated on April 2, 2019 after the Cameroonian Makossa legend declared Prof Maurice Kamto as winner of the 2018 presidential election.

The seizure of his passport was precedented by 48 hours in jail after he was arrested at the Sawa hotel in Douala.

Prof. Kamto was the principal Challenger of Paul Biya, Cameroon’s President during the polls.

The singer’s passport was confiscated after the October 2018 presidential elections that saw President Paul Biya emerge victorious.

Following the confiscation of Longue Longue’s passport, he made several videos pleading for it to be returned.

In some of the videos that trended online, he sheds tears explaining that the lack of the passport hinders him from carrying out his tasks as an artist as it limited him from travelling to perform out of the country.

Minister Jean De Dieu Momo’s handing of the document to the singer today has been termed by many as political.
