One week after the start of the implementation of a military operation code named “Bamenda Clean”, the governor of the North West region has not only applauded the military for such an initiative but says the operation will be extended to towns and villages in the entire region.
Governor Adolph Lele L’Afrique speaking in a coordination meeting in Bamenda said “The military operation will continue until all separatists are eradicated in the region. Bamenda is the third largest city in Cameroon and means a lot to the Cameroon government. We will not accept that the city should fall in the hands of separatists.”
According to Ndeng Christian in Mbengwi;Momo division in the North West, the operation “Bamenda Clean” is a military operation that will never be a solution to a purely political problem.
“It’s true that the activities of separatists is causing harm but using intense military arsenal to silence the group will have adverse effects on the local population.”
He quotes the killing of three innocent civilians at Mile 90 Bamenda last week as a glaring example of the side effects of the operation.
To some inhabitants of Nkambe in Donga Mantung division, the relative peace enjoyed in the division at the moment will be a thing of the past if the operation is extended as innocent people will be targeted by the military.
Bamenda City Mayor reiterated reasons why he signed a decision prohibiting the circulation of motorcycles in all parts of the city of Bamenda.
