The governor of the North West region, Adolphe Lele Afrique has declared that ongoing military operations in the region has resulted in the reopening of some major roads recently blocked by armed groups.
Governor Adolphe Lele Afrique has cited the stretch of road from Bambui in Mezam Division to Fundong in Boyo Division which has been reopened after it was blocked for close to a month.
A total of 54 vehicles seized from the population by the armed groups were used to block the road rendering the movement of persons and goods difficult.
“The operation has started, is ongoing and will continue to secure all those areas that have been blocked by the terrorists” he stated.
The governor added: “We came here to access the situation of the area between Bamenda and Fundong and I can now say everything is okay now for circulation to resume.”
Adolphe Lele Afrique noted that, after the reopening of the Bambui-Fundong stretch of the road, the process is going to continue in others parts of the region that have been blocked.
He used the visit to the area to appeal to the population to collaborate with the administration authorities and the forces of law and order.
The disruption of road circulation, he stated, is hindering not only the social life of the population, the economic life of the region but also public health since the road leads to one of the major health facility of the region.
It however remains unclear if circulation has resumed on the stretch of road.
