A routine security check at the Missellele Joint Police-Gendarmerie Checkpoint in Tiko led to the arrest of a suspect found in possession of a pistol and ammunition. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, around 1:30 PM, when a vehicle carrying four passengers—a woman and three men—arrived at the checkpoint from Limbe.
According to Chief Warrant Officer Mangama Togloto, the female passenger alerted security forces to the suspicious behavior of two men in the vehicle. During the standard identification process, one of the suspects attempted to ignite the vehicle and flee the scene. However, security forces quickly apprehended the second suspect.
A thorough body search of the arrested individual revealed a concealed pistol and ammunition. Following this discovery, personnel from the Tiko Military Naval Base arrived as reinforcements to conduct an extensive search of the vehicle.
The suspect was subsequently transferred to the Gendarmerie Mobile Intervention Unit (GMI) for further questioning and investigation.
The swift actions of the security forces at the checkpoint, in coordination with naval reinforcements, effectively controlled the situation and prevented any further danger to the public. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s intentions and any possible accomplices.
