As workers were celebrating Labour Day on May 1, tragedy struck in Bambui, North West Region, as unidentified gunmen shot and killed the newly appointed manager of Moghamo Express, a popular interurban transport agency.
The victim, identified only as Abdu, was attacked in his residence.
Eyewitnesses say the armed men stormed Abdu’s home around dusk and demanded to see him.
A confrontation reportedly ensued when he resisted being taken away, prompting the assailants to open fire.
He was reportedly shot multiple times in the chest and died on the spot. Residents later transported his body to Old Town, where it currently awaits burial scheduled for this Thursday, May 2.
Abdu, who was of Mbororo origin, got promoted recently to manage the Bambui branch of Moghamo Express.
Before his appointment, many knew him for issuing travel tickets at the agency’s counter, and he had gained the trust of many regular commuters.
No armed group has claimed responsibility for the killing, but the modus operandi, many say, resembles that of separatist fighters.
MMI received additional information confirming that Ambazonia separatists acting as hired gunmen were indeed responsible for the killings.
