Hiram Samuel Iyodi, presidential candidate of the Cameroon Democrat Front (CDF), has stated that his generation is “not hungry” for power or personal gain, distancing himself from politicians who join the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) for appointments.
Speaking at a press conference in Yaounde this July 31, Iyodi outlined a vision for a new political dynamic centered on citizens and driven by conviction.
“We have chosen to break away from the practices of the past, and good for those who continue to practice them,” he said.
“We have chosen to reject hypocrisy and client-dominated politics,” he added.
Hiram Samuel Iyodi is the youngest of 13 candidates for Cameroon’s presidential election holding in October this year. He had earlier proposed his vision for the country, which includes making Cameroon visa-free for all Africans, quitting the francs CFA monetary regime and curtailing the number of government Ministries.
The 38-year-old said, although the election is going to be very challenging and complicated, he is leading a generation of change.
“We’re not hungry right now. We are the generation that isn’t hungry. You are a generation that is no longer hungry.”
He referenced past opposition figures who joined the CPDM, betraying public aspirations, and vowed not to follow suit.
“You have chosen to embody a new way of doing politics,” he told his supporters.
To Hiram, his policies are citizen-centred and would be led by a new generation.
He said he is driven by conviction and promised that, in his administration, there would be rigour, truth, life, efficiency, and above all, the courage to stand with what is known.
“We want a strong state that will be respected. We can become the most powerful African country, and the goal is to respect the people.
We are there to protect, care, and elevate. We want leadership based on merit. Citizens should feel that they belong,” he said.
