People's Voice (PV) teachers in Cameroon
Greetings to you, Mimi Mefo Info.
I’m a teacher of GBHS ETOUG-EBE in Yaounde. I write to express my disappointment with the state of Cameroon for neglecting and exploiting teachers in this country.
Last year, there was a teachers’ strike and teachers made the following demands from the state:
In an effort to solve the problems, the head of state instructed the ministers of secondary and basic education to hasten the process of all career documents for teachers and sign them. He equally instructed the minister of finance to pay all advancement arrears for teachers by August 2023. The teachers were satisfied to a lesser extent and decided to call off the strike.
Unfortunately, this is August 2023. An unsigned list has been published. According to this list, the payment of teachers’ advancement arrears will run from August 2023 to the end of 2025. By then, many teachers will already be eligible for more advancements. When will those be paid? It would shock you to see that there are teachers on this list who have never benefited from advancements since 1980. Worst of all, there are thousands of teachers who are due advancement but are left out of this list.
There are some who don’t even have advancement decisions, but they already have the financial increment and their names on the list while some have advancement decisions without the financial impact and are nowhere to be found on the so-called lists. Some are due to advancements but do not even have advancement information. Will these ones ever be paid?
I’m eligible for four advancements but I don’t even have one advancement decision. My name does not appear on the payment plan and there are many of us. We have been recompiling documents for more than three years now to no avail.
President Paul Biya and his council of ministers
My question is, if colleagues from 1980 are being paid in 2023, then when will some of us be paid? 2070, I guess.
The Ministry of Secondary Education is not doing its job. Career documents are not being signed on a regular basis.
I think some ministers have to resign because they don’t do their job.
