In Search of greener pastures: Over 30 Cameroonians stranded in Lagos after falling prey to scam networks

By David Atangana
At least 30 Cameroonians have been left stranded in Lagos Nigeria after falling prey to scam networks.

This follows a desparate venture in search of job opportunities that turned out to be a scam in the Republic of Benin, a french speaking West African country, MMI has gathered.

The victims were reportedly chased out of Benin by the country’s security. They later ended up stranded in Nigeria.

“Cameroonians told to come to Benin Republic are promised a job with a salary of upto 200,000FCFA but must register with a sum of at least 500,000 FCFA,” a family member of a victim has told MMI.

The same source added that: “once an agent gets there and gives the 500,000 FCFA,they are asked to engage in a network marketing. They are also told that the only way they can earn some money is to bring more of their friends from Cameroon who will bring some more money.”

MMI gathered that the security of the Republic of Benin uncovered the network and chased all those involved out of the country.

Leaders of the scam reportedly refused to sign any deal with the victims. They are also said to have denied refunding their money.

Recovering it now seems farfetched following the uncovering of the network.

“Some of those leaders took their money and did not sign a deal but are refusing to refund the money,” our source revealed, adding that, “some paid 500,000 FCFA each ,others 550,000 FCFA and so on.”

They are said to be stranded in Lagos- Nigeria with no hopes of getting a means to return to Cameroon.

“They are now trapped in Lagos with some having no transport to return to Cameroon” added the source.
