Indomitable Lions 1990 World Cup Team: Paul Biya to fulfill his promise at last

The president of Cameroon has instructed that each Indomitable Lion who participated in the 1990 World Cup in Italy be offered a modern house.

A source has told Mimi Mefo Info that a consultation meeting took place Thursday, August 6, 2020 between some top members of government and Albert Roger Milla, one of the footballers that participated in the World Cup.

The action is a fulfillment of a promise made by president Paul Biya in 1990 when the team succeeded to reach the quarter finals stage of the World Cup, thereby, being the first African team to reach that stage in the history of football.

If the move finally materialises, it will be coming when three of the twenty two players that took part in the world cup have already died. They include the Captain of the team Tataw Eta Stephen, Louis Paul Mfede and Benjamin Massing.

Mimi Mefo Info has learned that four Cameroonian assistant coaches that took the Lions to Italy in 1990 received their bonuses from the government of Cameroon two years ago. They include Jean Pierre Sadi,Jean Manga Oungene, Jules Nyongha and Michel Kaham. The head coach was a Russian by name Valeri Nepomniachi.

In a letter addressed to the team popularly referred to as “the forgotten generation of heroes” on the 26th of June 2020, President Paul Biya praised them for their engagement, patriotism and courage that has encouraged generations of footballers in Cameroon and the African continent as a whole.

Some critics say the promise is coming late when some of the players have died in misery. To those who think so, government should equally compensate Cameroonians that are working hard for the country in different fields.
