Some inhabitants of Japoma Canton, Littoral Region of Cameroon came out massively on Wednesday May 25 to protest against 24 hours quit notice given them.

The population marched to the office of the Douala III divisional officer to express their discontent towards government’s plans to demolish their houses within 24 hours as stated on the quit notice.

According to reports, most residents are decrying the fact that the land on which they have built their houses were sold to them by locals of the Bakoko clan.

In as much as many have tend to point accusing fingers at administrative authorities, for imposing such burden on them, many believe Madiba Songue, king of the Bakoko clan could, to an extent be held for the calamity which has befallen them.

One of the inhabitants decried “We legally bought our lands, we don’t have anything against the Bakoko clan but let the Bakoko poeple and their king understand themselves and let us be in peace.”

They have therefore urged the king of Bakoko to take responsibility by providing them their land documents.

” The president of the Republic nominated Madiba Songue as Senator, they did not appoint him to demolish our houses. Madiba Songue should take his responsibility and give us our land papers, that’s all we demand from him.” said another inhabitant.

It is reported that over 2,000 Cameroonians will likely be rendered homeless if the demolitions are executed in this neighborhood.

This comes shortly after the the Bali, Douala demolitions which left many homeless and stranded.
