Irish Chef Alan Fisher Dethrones Nigerian Culinary Star Hilda Baci

The Guinness World Record for the longest continuous cooking has a new titleholder. Irish Chef Alan Fisher has dethroned the renowned Nigerian culinary icon, Hilda Baci, after an extraordinary culinary marathon.

Alan Fisher, whose culinary prowess has garnered significant attention, achieved this feat by cooking non-stop for an astounding 119 hours and 57 minutes. This remarkable achievement surpasses Hilda Baci’s record by an entire day, solidifying his position as the new reigning champion.

The Guinness World Record made the official announcement on their social media platform. In their post, they stated, “Nigerian cooking queen Hilda Baci has been dethroned…Alan Fisher from Ireland cooked for an incredible 119 hours and 57 minutes at his restaurant in Japan.”

Nigerian professional chef Hilda Baci, widely known as Hilda Bassay Effiong, had previously broken the Guinness World Record by cooking continuously for over four days. She embarked on this incredible journey, which she named “Cook-a-thon,” in Lekki, Lagos State, commencing on May 11 and concluding on Monday, May 15. Her record-setting culinary marathon lasted for an astonishing 93 hours and 11 minutes.

The Guinness World Records officially recognized Hilda Effiong Bassey as the longest-cooking marathon record holder on Tuesday, June 13th, 2023. Following her remarkable achievement, numerous Nigerian chefs, including Dammy Pass, attempted to surpass her record but fell short.

In May 2022, Liberian professional chef Wonyean Aloycious Gaye, known as Chef Aloycious, also expressed intentions to challenge Hilda Baci’s record, but his efforts did not yield a significant breakthrough.

Chef Alan Fisher’s journey to breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking hours began when he learned about the record during his participation in the “I Love Ireland Festival” in Tokyo in March. Fisher set out on a mission to beat the previous record, which has since become a reality.

In addition to his culinary achievements, Chef Alan Fisher has also broken the Guinness World Record for the longest baking hours (individual) by baking continuously for 47 hours and 21 minutes. His dedication to pushing the boundaries of culinary excellence has certainly earned him a place in the annals of culinary history.
