Another culinary master, Temitope Adebayo, also known as Tope Maggie, reportedly completed a 200-hour cooking marathon in an effort to reclaim the Guinness World Record that renowned Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci had previously lost.
Following Irish Chef Alan Fisher’s 119-hour and 57-minute culinary feat on November 7, 2023, which dethroned Hilda Baci, the culinary community has been buzzing with anticipation. Tope Maggie has emerged as a strong contender, having successfully completed a 200-hour cook-a-Thon on November 18, 2023, as reported by various Nigerian sources.
Oyo Affairs, a prominent Nigerian blog, announced Tope Maggie’s achievement on their official social media account, sharing a video and congratulating the chef and his team. The tweet read, “Congratulations to Chef Tope Maggie and his team for completing a 200-hour Cook-A-Thon, which came to an end at exactly 3 am this morning.”
During his feat, the chef received encouragement from many Nigerians, including his local MP, Hon. Olamijuwonlo AlaoAkala (JP), who took to X to express their support.
Tope Maggie embarked on this remarkable culinary journey on the evening of November 9th, culminating in the early hours of November 18th. The cook-a-thon unfolded at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club, situated opposite the LAUTECH College of Health Sciences in Isale-General, Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Local supporters and fans provided an enthusiastic backdrop as Tope Maggie showcased his culinary prowess.
A graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, with a background in Hotel Management, Tope Maggie inherited his nickname “Maggie” from his mother, who served as his culinary mentor.
Awaiting confirmation from the Guinness World Record, Tope Maggie, along with his supporters and fans, are waiting for official acknowledgment of his achievement. It is worth noting that numerous Nigerian and African chefs, including Tope Maggie, had previously attempted to seize the title from Hilda Baci without success.
