French national team football captain, Kylian Mbappe, who is currently in Cameroon for a three days humanitarian visit has expressed his excitement at finally visiting the country.
Mbappe is a french international, with Cameroonian roots, precisely Djebale island, in the Littoral region, his father’s native village. Mbappe arrived Cameroon on July 6, 2023 to a warm welcome from fans at the Nsimalen airport in Yaoundé, and is currently lodged at the iconic Yannick Noah village.
Speaking to CRTV hours after landing in Cameroon, Mbappe said he was delighted to have finally made the trip to Cameroon. “It is a great honour for me to be here in Cameroon.” He said.
Upon arrival, the football super star made a quick visit to the Yaoundé school for children with hearing deficiency, an institution which his foundation funded its rehabilitation.
At the school, he played some football with the kids and took some pictures with the staff. Commenting on the visit, Mbappe said “It is important for people to know that I am actually a real person, and not just someone you see on TV. Feeling the closeness with your roots is very important.”
“I would have never imagined to be this influential this early in my life, to have played for giant clubs like PSG and Monaco, and to represent such a great nation as France.” He added.
Mbappe during his time in Cameroon, is expected to pay a visit to his father’s native village of Djebale, and among other activities, to play a football match against a local football team. He will also be granted an audience with Cameroon’s Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute.
