It’s time for international community to act on Anglophone crisis – OMCT

The World Organisation Against Torture, OMCT has said activities of armed groups in the Northwest and Southwest have “crossed a red line” and it is time for the international community to step in and end the Anglophone crisis.

“The time has certainly come for a more resolute engagement by the international community to help end the crisis.”
Speaking in collaboration with the Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa, CHRDA, OMCT said, the attack on Mother Francisca school is a war crime that must be punished according to national and international law.

“This incident is another episode to add to the countless horrific and gross violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in our war-affected region. The deliberate targeting and killing of children in their school is nothing less than a war crime that should be punished in accordance with national and international law”, the organisation said, citing CHRDA President, Barrister Agbor Balla.

The anti-torture organisation’s Secretary General, Gerald Staberock, urged International and regional human rights organisations to support the Cameroonian government to end to the crisis.

The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights is expected to hold a specific session, in it’s upcoming session, to discuss the Anglophone crisis and seek ways to resolve it, OMTC proposed.
